We switched our website infrastructure from Wix to WordPress.
TL;DR – We moved to WordPress for a higher quality website solution. So far so good. Comment your preferred website builder and why.
We made the switch primarily to move to a platform which feels more high-quality, professional, and permanent. A lot of my more recent client work has been focused on website design and development, with a few of those projects being WordPress projects. I used WordPress in the past with Coldwell Banker and also through another real estate CRM/website platform, but honestly it always felt a little bit too technical for me. I preferred something more “drag and drop” while being able to build out pages visually in real time.
One particular issue I consistently ran into with Wix was a degradation of image quality once the sites were published. I spent a significant amount of time on multiple occasions troubleshooting and just could never get a crisp look to images. Of course this reflects poorly on a business and regardless of whether it’s super obvious or not, I always felt like the outcome wasn’t as good as it could have been.
Another thing that started as something I liked then progressed into something that I came to dislike was the lack of “grid” type structure. As I came to appreciate the importance of alignment and spacing as a designer, I wanted that structure.
I found that WordPress and its many builder-style plugins were able to solve both of those sticking points. As I’ll say often, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do. I believe if there’s a will, there’s a way, so it’s definitely possible to build visually appealing, structured websites in Wix. But from my first-hand experience, WordPress is the superior platform for high-quality, professional websites. Don’t be intimidated if you don’t have a lot of experience – it’s truly not that difficult.
